A Storied Past: History of Rocky Mountain National Park

The Park was established in 1915 when President Woodrow Wilson signed the Rocky Mountain National Park Act. As word spread of the beauty of the area, the number of tourists increased dramatically until World War II temporarily put an end to the crowds. After the war, came a resurgence of visitors, and over the years park management began taking steps to protect the local ecosystems and wildlife for future generations.

National Park Access
Visitors planning a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park should be aware that the park requires an entrance pass, and during peak seasons a timed entry reservation may also be required to access certain areas of the park.
Several park pass options are available, including daily passes and the America the Beautiful – The National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass, which provides access to national parks and federal recreation lands across the United States for one year- unless otherwise notated.
