On the Water

If you thought our skies were blue, wait until you get out on the lakes and rivers. Water sports are some of the best things to do in the Granby area, so make a day of some fun on the water.

With three lakes in the area, you’ll have your choice of picturesque bodies of water to plan your day around. Start off with some fishing and when you’ve caught your limit, grab a meal at the marina or pick a picnic spot for lunch. Next, test your paddling skills with kayaking or find a quiet bay and just watch the clouds float by. Of course, you can also plan an entire day—or weekend—around whitewater rafting.

Lake Granby

Whether you like to fish under the warm sun or through a thick sheet of ice, Lake Granby has a catch in store for you. What better place to start your adventure than the headwaters of the Colorado River?

Lake Granby is just a 10-minute drive from town, so you can easily head to its shores and get out on the water in no time. Of course, you don’t have to love fishing to love it up here. Three boat launches make all kinds of boating possible—with a motor, a sail, or a paddle or two. And with 40 miles of shoreline, you can spread out in the summer and set up for a day at the beach.

A little farther up the road, you’ll find Shadow Mountain Lake and Grand Lake. Stick around for a while so you can visit them all.

Rafting & Kayaking

There’s nothing better than the splash of river rapids in your face on a hot Colorado summer day while rafting along a stretch of fresh water. Unless, of course, you prefer a smooth, serene ride. Either way, rafting guides in the Granby area will show you a good time that gets your heart pounding or lets you enjoy a more relaxed ride suitable for even the little ones.

If kayaking is more your style, you’re in good company. Keep an eye out for osprey, bald eagles, and that pink skyline. You can also try your hand at canoeing or balance your way on a stand-up paddleboard. Before you know it, you’ll be paddling all day.

Marinas

The Granby area’s marinas are your home base for lake adventures. Stock up on fishing and camping gear in the morning, and make a toast to conquering the waters with a cold margarita after a day in the sun.

When it comes to boat rentals, you’ll find catamarans, pontoon boats, and speed boats available, or bring your own and keep it up here for the season. Rent a slip or mooring buoy and take advantage of winterizing and repair services.

There’s something for everyone out on the water. Come experience the views and the wind in your hair.
