Get Vertical

Resort skiing and snowboarding, plus opportunities for backcountry skiing—it’s all within easy reach from Granby. Whether you’re experienced enough to take on backcountry or just learning the slopes, you can do it here.

Get up early for the first chair at Granby Ranch ski resort. This family-owned gem has terrain for all ability levels, so if your party is a mix of experts and beginners you can still pile into one car. The Granby skiing and snowboarding vibe is friendly, too. You never know who you might meet over that steaming cup of hot chocolate.

If you’re a serious powder hound, check out the options for backcountry skiing. Fresh tracks in Colorado’s light and cold snow are a dream come true. Earn your turns or get there in style on a snowcat.

People-Powered Winter Travel

Nordic skiers and snowshoers will want to spend as much time as possible here. Since Granby is near four Nordic skiing areas, and home to some of the country’s top Nordic skiing, there are miles of ground to cover! You’ll find rentals and retail amenities, and if your favorite skiing partner is a canine companion, a few select trails allow dogs. Want to log some bonus kilometers? There’s more terrain in the surrounding national forests and Rocky Mountain National Park.

To enjoy the winter scenery at a slower pace, try snowshoeing. There’s nothing like floating across sparkling snow drifts while you work up a good sweat. Take a guided tour or explore on your own. If you don’t have your own snowshoes, rentals are available.

Other Ways to Get Around

For a unique adventure, dog sled rides are truly special. These huskies can really fly, and the mushers know their way around the mountains. They’ll point out animal tracks, and you might even spot some wildlife in the flesh! Speaking of animal companions, you can also go for a horse-drawn sleigh ride that’s the stuff winter fantasies are made of, or opt for some ice fishing to really experience the full gambit of snow-season activities.

If dog sledding whets your appetite for speed, the Granby area is a snowmobiler’s paradise. Layer up and follow your guide to the Continental Divide or a number of other destinations for different ability levels. If you’ve just got to have your own sled, there’s a dealer nearby. For a more flexible option, the Granby area has snowmobile rentals as well.

Family-Friendly Fun

Of all the things to do in winter in Granby, tubing and sledding are a favorite with kids and adults. Slide down the slopes solo or double up with a partner. Catch snowflakes on your tongue and then get cozy by the fire. Rosy cheeks and bundled up little ones, eyes wide with wonder, create priceless family memories.

As one of the largest reservoirs in Colorado, Lake Granby is a top spot for ice fishing, and home to some of the best trophy trout fishing in the state.
