Fall

In the fall, Granby welcomes brilliant shades of orange, red, and gold as trees display their coordinated colors of the season. Between the beautiful weather, blue skies, and stunning shades of autumn, this is the perfect place to be during fall.

Spot the Wildlife

Fall is one of the best times of year to view the wildlife in the area. Mixed among the golden trees, it’s possible to find coyotes trotting through meadows, bears climbing the trees, moose lazily wading in creeks, or deer and elk grazing peacefully.

Perhaps one of the most magical occurrences this time of year is elk mating season. Head to the Kawunechee Valley in Rocky Mountain National Park around dusk to see elk gather in herds of up to 100 to spar and mate. The bulls use their eerie bugling calls to mark territory, impress their rivals, and call to their cows to keep them close.

If you encounter any wildlife, make sure to observe from a distance and do not approach. Also, never feed any wild animals and keep dogs on a leash when in their presence.

Play Outdoors

In mid-September, the aspen and cottonwood trees in Granby begin to change colors—a spectrum of gold, orange, and red. Grab your hiking boots, backpacks, and reusable water bottles and hit the trails on foot to revel in this beauty. Or, revel in this beauty on two-wheels instead. The Granby area has a number of trails for all skill levels, and the fall Rocky Mountain views will take your breath away.
