A permit for harvesting a Christmas tree in the Arapaho National Forest must be bought before harvesting. You can purchase a permit online at recreation.gov. Permits are $20/each with a maximum of 5 permits per person. IMPORTANT! A separate ticket needs to be purchased from Snow Mountain Ranch to cut a tree on their property.

Download and print your tree cutting map. Printed maps are not available in the Forest. Cut trees only within the National Forest boundary. No trespassing on private property.

Cut the stump at ground level. Take the whole tree. Do not remove the top of the tree.

Choosing a tree from a densely forested area gives the remaining trees more space to grow.

Permits must be displayed on the tree or visible on your vehicle dashboard.

No cutting trees within 75 feet of any road, trail, and all bodies of water.

The Elk Creek cutting area will not be open for drive-in tree cutting this coming season. This area is open for walk-in use only. Christmas trees may be harvested across the Sulphur District. The maps provide some example areas that are easily accessible for Christmas tree cutting. Note that harvesting a Christmas tree is not limited to these areas.

TREE CUTTING TICKET

Guests will receive a tree cutting ticket upon lodging check in or upon the purchase of a $29 tree cutting ticket.

Guests must check in with Snow Mountain Ranch Staff at the Program Building.
TREE CUTTING INFORMATION

Trees that are off-limits will be marked. Please do not cut down marked trees. If you have questions about a tree, please ask the Snow Mountain Ranch staff.

Snow Mountain Ranch will provide handsaws.

Guests must tie their own trees down.

Guests are welcome to bring their own tools however, chainsaws and any electric equipment ARE NOT PERMITTED.
