In Granby, everything’s a little more independent. Take the family behind Wheatley Creek Services. Their roots stretch back to Granby's homesteading days. Back then, building a life in the mountains was a bold dream that required endless hard work in the harsh elements. But they persevered, and their story lives on. Inspired by his family's legacy, fourth-generation local Isreal created a business providing home maintenance and handyman services, and carrying on the Wheatley tradition of making Granby a place to call home.
Carrying on the legacy: Inspired by his family's homesteading history, fourth-generation local Isreal Allen and wife Kasy founded Wheatley Creek Services, named after The Wheatley Creek Ranch, and a tribute to the Wheatley family.
A piece of history: The Wheatley family's original cabin was built in the East Fork of the Troublesome. The nearby creek, named after the family, is now part of the 13.7-mile Wheatley Creek Trail.
A labor of love: Wheatley Creek Services is working to restore this Granby-area cabin to its former glory and continues to provide expert maintenance.
Honoring the pioneers: Isreal Allen proudly holds a photo of his great grandfather, George Wheatley, who, along with his brother Forest, ventured to Grand County as teenagers to claim their homestead in the early 1900s.
A chronicle of family history: Ida Wheatley's journals offer a glimpse into the lives of the Wheatley family, preserving precious memories and stories.
Committed to their community: Kasy and Isreal Allen are dedicated to giving back to Granby, supporting local nonprofits, events, youth sports, and businesses. Their involvement demonstrates their passion for both preserving history and being an active part of Granby's future.
