2024 ART IN THE PARK ARTIST PROFILE
Christy Helming
"Windows to the Past" Artwork
With 'Lettuce Heads, l've chosen to portray farmers to commemorate 150 years of Grand County's history. Lettuce farming has been vital to Granby, and Morales Farms has been a prominent operation for generations. This painting serves as a tribute to my late friend, Manuel Morales; thus, the farmer is clothed in blue and green stripes. The spider house in Grand Lake and a pine tree, both of which are local landmarks, are included in the painting to symbolize different towns in the county.
Artist Statement
I'm Christy Helming, I'm 47 years old, a wife and a mother to 2 beautiful daughters and my dog, Hopper, I adopted from Grand county animal shelter I also have a pig-son named Kevin Bacon. He, sadly, passed away on December 18th of 2021. I have painted many pictures of him since his passing. I have found art to be a great way to help me mentally; from when I was a kid in school doodling in my notebooks, till now as an adult painting or tattooing to help me through the loss of loved ones. I will have to say tattooing is, by far, absolutely my favorite! I love it and I have my Husband, Aaron Helming, to thank for teaching me the art of tattooing and to other artists, like Shanghai Kate, who was one of the best in the business and a great inspiration, and I want to thank all my Family and friends and fellow Artists for all the encouragement over the years.
